Speech Pathology

A pediatric speech pathologist supports children in developing essential speech, language, and communication skills. Our role includes:

​

Communication Development

 

  • Helping children learn to use gestures, sounds, and words to communicate their needs and interact with others.

​

Pre-Linguistic and Complex Communication

 

  • Supporting early communication skills including gestures, facial expressions, and skills such as joint attention.

​

Language Disorders

 

  • Assessing and supporting conditions like Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and difficulties with understanding (receptive language) or sharing thoughts (expressive language).

​

Speech Development

 

  • Helping children produce clear speech sounds and improve articulation, phonology, and overall speech clarity.

​

Play Skills

 

  • Supporting children in play, to develop friendships, and improve imaginative and cooperative play skills.

 

​Social Communication

 

  • Teaching children how to greet others, take turns, follow social rules, understand tone and emotions, and use appropriate social language in conversations.

​

Fluency

 

  • Helping children who stutter develop strategies for smoother, more confident speech.

​

Early Literacy & Pre-Literacy Skills

 

  • Developing phonological awareness, vocabulary, storytelling, and comprehension skills to support reading and writing.

​

Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)

 

  • Implementing communication systems such as Key Word Sign, Proloquo, PODD, and LAMP.

​

Mealtimes & Feeding

 

  • Addressing fussy eating, difficulties with texture progression, choking/gagging, limited food variety, delayed oral motor skills, and providing mealtime and feeding assessments.

​

Parent & Educator Coaching

 

  • Equipping families and teachers with practical strategies to support communication development in everyday activities and learning environments.

​

School Readiness & Learning Support

 

  • Helping children, and their key educators, build the communication, social, and language skills needed for a smooth transition to preschool and school.

​
